Founders Cup/Salver 2010 Q/F Preview
Founders Cup

West Byfleet A V Queens Head B

A home tie for West Byfleet A and you would think they would just about sneak a home win. However, indifferent form recently for West Byfleet leaves them mid table in division 2. Alex Chubb leads the line for the home team with S Masson and J Chalkey picking up most of their league points. The opposition also find themselves mid table in the league’s second tier and according to the table 4 points better of than their hosts. At the time of writing these two teams have met once already in the league back in November with Byfleet edging this 6-5. This time round the Queens will be hoping Capt Steve Ramlakhan is on top form and this with the help of M Rasek (sitting at 4 in the averages) B King and C Nigrelli should see them home.

Prediction 5–6 Queens Head B to steal this one. One to Watch – Steve Ramlakhan (Captain Fantastic wins the decider on the black)

 Crown A V Fox & Flowerpot B

The Crown A will be believing they can go all the way in this years competition after a very impressive win in the last round against the George B. The draw has been kind to them once again, with home advantage against lower league opposition. M Nolan looks like the top performer in what has been a disappointing league campaign so far. Perhaps this Cup run will help their league form. The Fox and Flowerpot B are the visitors and will fancy an upset here. With players like D Elliot winning 7 of his 8 league starts D Robertson and J (Jimmy?) White both with 75% so far, it looks a steady line up.

Prediction 4–6 Cups have a canny knack of throwing in an upset and this looks to be it for me. One to watch – Got to be  J (Jimmy?) White surely!

 George A V Chobham

The tie of the round for me. A repeat of last years Semi Final, where the George slipped through 6-4. The current holders will have R White, B Herbert, J Norris, A Rourke, N Richardson, T Kennedy and A Sutherland at their disposal. They are currently second in the Championship and buoyant after smashing the George B 9-2 last time out. Chobham are a resolute team and have their own high profile players in Dale Ansell and Sam Elliott to name two. If they both shine and are backed up by the reliable Martin Ansell P Walker S Ramsey and N Sewell, this match could go all the way.

Prediction 6-5 The first few frames will be crucial here. One to Watch – Jason Norris former Surrey A team captain and Ginger!

 Crossley A v Fox & Flowerpot A

Last years finalists and current leaders of the Championship look hard to beat here. M Chubb, T Harding, A Smithers C Mansey, K White and probably top of the Championship averages once Edd updates them tonight Des Jackson. A formidable line up awaits their opponents the Fox & Flowerpot A. A different line up from previous years without, Trevor Howard and Brian Brennan. However with D Cook M Sharpley and M Crawley, there is a crack of light for the Fox that chances are missed by the home team and frames are given away. A nervy start for the home team and there’s a chance of the Fox A joining their B team in the Semi’s

Prediction 6-3 Crossley should prevail comfortably. One to Watch – Des Jackson top of the averages need I say more.

Founders Salver

Blue Anchor B V Goldie’s

The Anchor prop up the league as it stands although they do have games in hand on teams above them due to reduced teams in this division. The Cup will give some respite from the league and a repeat of their league performance against tonight’s prey will push them into the Semi’s Kiddy Wakefield and Parsons look to be the pick of the bunch and home advantage will certainly help. Goldie’s meanwhile have always had a steady side J Walters N Proctor and C Derrick will be hoping they can hit some form and make a better fist of it than they did in the league encounter.

Prediction 6-2 Same again for the Blue Anchor B
and they will match their A’s run to the Semi’s of 2009. One to Watch, L Wakefield to win both his frames.

Kingfield Arms A V Riley’s Rulers

The Kingfield Arms A sit top and unbeaten in Division 3 having won their first 7 league games. They will be right up for the encounter with Championship opposition on Thursday. S Black, C and J Dobson are all class acts and rarely need asking twice to take out finishes. Riley’s Rulers meanwhile are adapting to life in the top echelons of the West Surrey League and are safely mid table. Captain Steve Strange will be eying cup success as a strong possibility this year. They will rely heavily on the steady S Green and talented D Jepson to pull them though.

Prediction 6-4 A close one but home advantage prevails One to Watch – S Black ill say it again class act.

Riley’s Rumblers V West Byfleet B

Interesting game this one! The Rumblers have the superior league position over their opponents but found themselves on the back end of a defeat in their league encounter. Mick Heard has taken up the baton in the rankings from son Daniel with an impressive 15 from 17 starts last week.  With Daniel and Jason Fields at their disposal this should be on paper a comfortable win and progress for the Rumblers who are predominantly focusing on promotion and perhaps one eye on the cup. West Byfleet B are having a very average season by their standards. Sitting just off the bottom with 33 pts, however this is the closest league by a mile with the top team just 13 or so points above them. All to play for in the second half of the season and why not kick start it with a cup win over a team you have already beaten. James, Lewsza Daniels and Payne will be thinking just that.

Prediction 6-3 This time round it’s certainly the Rumblers for me. One to Watch – Mr Kipling aka Dave Toothill an astute signing by Edd.

Birch & Pines B V Station Platform

Another hard one to call here the Birch second string flying high at the top of division 4 up against the Station Platform second in the division above. P Mackenzie 8/10 wins K Dore 6/8 N Brown 6/9 and S Phipps 4/6 are one reason this you might say is a formality coupled with home advantage and no doubt a few Birch A players attending to cheer on. The station though are only 3 points off the top with only one league defeat thus far. W McSkimming, L Hockham last years beaten doubles finalists play for the platform along with C Almery and J Gilbride who have won 19 frames between them so far Almery with 11/14 and Gilbride 8/12.

Prediction 5-5 and a decider, not sure which one will prevail Two to Watch – Mckenzie v Almery in the decider…balls anyone!

So that’s it my take on this years 16 remaining teams. Wins for Queens Fox B George and the Fox A and in the Salver it’s the Anchor  Kingfield Rumblers and either the Birch or the Station.

Best of luck to all

Shakey Sanchez
